The State Park Contest ends April 15th!
The State Park series highlights the various landscapes found within Illinois, and is representative of the diversity of the Midwest American landscape. Each print features one hand-carved block and two layers of abstract color fields created from using type-high wood blocks. All three layers are letterpress printed and are created in a limited edition of 75 prints.
I have had six big moves in my life, bouncing back and forth between the Midwest and overseas. I have learned that the transition seems to be easiest when I find a way to ground myself in my new home, and what better way to do so than to find the investigate the landscape. And with that, I embarked on the State Park Series in 2016, based on the state I now call home; Illinois. I am excited to be expanding the series even more this coming year. That’s where I’d like to invite you to come in!
Upon request of a fellow park lover, I created the Chain of Lakes print. When I saw them again months later at an art market, and they told me about the long stretches they would spend camping at Chain O’ Lakes state park – even though they lived not 5 miles from the campground! I love this family’s commitment to raising their kids close to nature and I am honored my print now hangs in their home.
With that in mind, I am launching a contest to choose the next park featured in the series! I invite you to tell me what you find special about a state park in Illinois. At the end of the month, I will choose a story. The lucky winner will receive their very own copy of the new print upon its completion.
How to Participate:
1. Make a list of all the State Parks in Illinois you have visited. Check out the official parks list here.
2. Think of your favorite memory about a park - a special spot, a wonderful adventure, how the space made you feel - it's totally up to you.
3. Tell me your story! You can contact me by email, fill out the contact me form, send me a private message on Instagram or Facebook, or make a public comment on one of the contest posts on either platform.
Entries are accepted from now until Monday, April 15th. The winner of the contest will be announced the following week on April 22nd, Earth Day!
The winner of The State Park Contest will receive a huge Hurray! as well as a FREE PRINT inspired by the park from their story.
